Memorial Weekend in Willamette Valley Wine Country

Wineries in the Willamette Valley opened their doors Memorial Weekend as they kicked off the summer wine tasting season.  This was the 21st year of special events and tastings during Memorial Weekend.

Carlton, Oregon was among the towns buzzing with activity throughout the weekend.  Visitors enjoyed fine wine, food, music and hospitality offered by various businesses around the town.

This year Willamette Valley wineries donated a portion of proceeds to Ecotrust’s Farm to School Programs.  The programs work to promote more healthy, locally grown food choices at schools in the region.

Yamhill Valley Farm Fest Plowing Competition

Draft Horses Compete at Plowing
Draft Horses Compete at Farm Fest
Some 18 to 20 teams of draft horses recently displayed their strength and beauty at an old fashioned plowing competition at Yamhill Valley Heritage Center in McMinnville, Oregon.  The annual spring event
was an opportunity for city and town folks to experience farming as it was in the days before mechanized farming. Visitors  could also witness horseshoeing, blacksmith and sawmill demonstrations.
A follow-up event — Harvest Fest — will be held August 13-14 where you can witness old-time farming with vintage tractors, draft horses and mules harvesting crops.  For a glimpse of country life, Harvest Fest  is an event not to be missed.
